Courses
We will be holding our river training sessions again this year on TUESDAY evenings at the Canoe Hut, The Wharf, Godalming. (behind Homebase). Time: 6.15 for a 6.30 start, finishing at 8 to 8.15pm approx. depending on sunset times
Courses are open to Scouts, Guides and Explorers (and leaders of course!). Cub age and below are welcome to come on a taster session with their group but Discover, Explore and White Water are suitable for scout age and above.
Please NOTE that those on Explore award and White Water Award courses will hopefully be able to use the same boat each week and those on the Discover Award will be allocated on the evening. All participants will be encouraged to try out a variety of craft during their courses.

Paddle Discover Award
For beginners over a 5 week period in Kayak. If you're new to paddling, or just attended a couple of taster sessions then this is where you start. Once you have your Discover award under your belt you can move on to Explore course next year. Whilst Paddle discover is a beginner course you must be ready to work hard and pay close attention to the coaches. As a new paddler you'll need to gain experience and must be prepared for the challenge. Paddle sports are classed as an adventurous activity and not without risk so you must be prepared to listen carefully to coach's instructions. Don't be surprised when they shout out your name if they spot you heading for the rapids! Paddle Discover £46 this includes 5 weeks tuition, the use of a licensed boat, buoyancy aid and paddle. Paddle Explore Award Once you've completed your Discover course (or the old 1 Star qualification) you can move on to the 22 week Explore award. This is Kayak and Canoe, and we may even muck about in Stand Up Paddle Boards if you fancy it. Paddle Explore £80 this includes approximately 22 weeks tuition and equipment as for Paddle Discover plus a spraydeck for the course. Log books which are required at this standard can be down loaded off the Internet - this will be explained on the first evening. Booking is now open for the 2023 Explore Course starting 18th April - click here to register your interest White Water Award You've made it through Discover and Explore course, now you're serious about paddle sports! You've capsized goodness knows how many times and come back up with a smile on your face, you may have even done an Eskimo roll. You're ready for teh White Water Award. This is Kayak only and aimed at getting you ready for moving water. It usually takes two years to attain this award, and at the end of the first year you'll get the chance to kayak on moving water in Dartmore. White Water Award/ £80 this includes approximately 22 weeks tuition and equipment as for Paddle Explore. £70 will be charged for the 22 weeks if you have ALL your own equipment. You are required to keep a log book of all your canoeing activity and any trips you make. This course is not always completed within the first year hence may have to continue for a further year. What you need to bring
Most importantly, the willingness to get wet and put a lot of energy in to it. You must be able to swim at least 50 metres. You should come dressed ready to get wet with:

When booking a course the cost of the course in full must be sent with the application form by cheque or sent by bank transfer, all details re payments are at the end of this application form. This is a non returnable payment except in certain circumstances and at the discretion of the Committee.

- Trainers or boat shoes - no crocks as they just fall off. The river is full of them
- Jogging bottoms or shorts when it gets warmer
- T-shirt or technical running shirt
- Lightweight Cagoule - even when it's not cold you do feel the wind. You must be able to tuck the hood away or remove it as this fills with water if not stowed away
